FAQs
What is the AVAPS feature?
AVAPS (Average Volume-Assured Pressure Support) is a mode of non-invasive ventilation that delivers a set tidal volume by adjusting inspiratory pressure support within a range. It's like a hybrid of volume and pressure control, used to help patients with respiratory failure, especially those with acute exacerbations of COPD.
Where should I place the device for optimal use?
Place the device on a firm, flat surface within easy reach of where you will use it and at a level lower than your sleeping position.
Can I monitor my therapy progress?
The DreamStation BiPAP AVAPS 25 provides you with a summary of information about your therapy use each time the therapy is turned off. The screen displays your three-night summary. It shows your nightly usage for the last 3 sleep sessions (measured in 24-hour periods, ending at noon each day). The most recent session is displayed in the right-hand bar, labelled with the number of hours slept. A green bar indicates that you slept more than 4 hours, and a yellow bar indicates less than 4 hours of sleep.
What kind of maintenance does the device require?
Use mild liquid dishwashing detergent and water to clean the device exterior, humidifier exterior, and the tubing weekly. Clean the humidifier water chamber weekly and replace the water daily. Rinse the Reusable Blue Pollen Filter with warm tap water monthly and replace every six months. Replace the Ultra-Fine Filter every 30 days.
Can I put the system in checked baggage when travelling?
No, the carrying case is designed for carry-on luggage only. It will not protect the system if it is put through checked baggage.
What should I do if I travel with the optional humidifier?
Do not travel with water in the water tank when using the optional humidifier.
How can I simplify the security process when travelling with the system?
The device is suitable for use on airlines when it is operating from an AC or DC power source. The device is not suitable for airline use with any modems or humidifiers installed. There is a note on the bottom of the device stating that it is medical equipment and suitable for airline use. Bringing the manual may also help security personnel understand the DreamStation BiPAP device.
What do I need to know about power compatibility when travelling to a different country?
If you're travelling to a country with a different line voltage, you may need a different power cord or an international plug adaptor. Contact your home care provider for more information.
